Weihnachten!

well, i hope all of you were able to enjoy Christmas to it's fullest! I had a great one.
I admit it was quite weird and sad not to be home and to only interact with my family over skype, yet, I was able to visit a lot of friends and family which was wonderful. I love you all and wish you a holly jolly Christmas and a happy new year!

The Jenses were kind enough to give me a home during the holidays and I enjoyed experiencing someone elses tradition and to go through a REAL American christmas, stockings, acting out the christmas story, cookies and all. Here's my obligatory christmas picture after Kathi did my make up. I think I always look older than I am. Sad day! 22 going on 30 :)
You can see Karen's Christmas City in the back. Everyone of her kids has a house where they reside with their families, Kristin and Jared in the Sweet Shop, Kari's taylor shop, Dave with his mansion and so on. Although I'm not one of their kids they let me live in their town too. I got the imported telephone booth. I absolutely heart it!

If you were wondering, Ben is the crib and Blaik is baby Jesus. Sean was our shepherd. David and Ally started out being sheep and I was a mother sheep with a baby but ended up with Ally's sheep as well. Becca and Brandon were super cute as Mary and Joseph. Kayci was the Angel and her mom represented the night sky. Rachi, Mel and Moe were fab wise (wo)men and Kathi gave an incredible rendition of the donkey. Michael was narrator and Karen audience as well as photographer.

On this note, I'd like to testify of the reason for the season. I'm so grateful to know of our Savior as the Redeemer of the world! Jesus Christ truly is the Son of God and I am so very thankful for His life, resurection and mission. I know He lives! If we come unto Him we choose the path of happiness and eternal life. We can become like Him and by so doing return to our Heavenly Father and be with Them forever, together with our family. That is worth everything to me. It gives me hope and joy. Hopefully everyone can share this joy throughout the next few days and throughout their lives.

Deck the halls

Finally the semester is over. I celebrated it by reading half of a book right until the middle of the night (after submitting my last school assignment 15 min. before midnight). It is so satisfying to just read what and when ever you want to! I also got to visit the Jensens and saw some extended family. To top of my weekend my friend Cris invited me to join some of his friends and him to go to the Jon Schmidt Christmas Concert at Kingsbury Hall. I liked it a lot! It was great. We also had the chance to check out the lights on Temple Square again. Here are some pictures for you (most of the good ones probably were taken by Cris!). I love Christmas lights and the ones on Temple Square are by far the best I've seen.

Look at the intricacy of those lights!

This is my friend Cris and I in the Joseph Smith Memorial building (it's gorgeous in there) I had to crop the picture because there was some weird glare. So pardon the close up!

Voice Recital

Alright Folks,

for all of you who have been waiting in anticipation or who had to endure me stressing out, thank you for your support, especially Erika, Luke and Jake! Thanks for practicing with me and giving me feedback. I know I've tried your patience! I've passed the 'in class voice recital' this morning. In hindsight it's ridiculous how big a deal I made out of it. I was incredibly nervous, mainly because I know I wasn't able to spend as much time preparing for it as I wanted to. Honestly I felt pretty bad after the whole thing because in the middle of the "Let me in" I actually spaced out and forgot the lyrics. I fudged my way through it by repeating parts of the first verse haha.. I felt totally flustered but somehow no one noticed, I guess. Here is the email I got from the Professor. Let me assure you he is way too nice about the way I did, but I still like to share it with you. I'm not gonna lie, it made me feel pretty good. I prayed that I would be able to do good despite of my lack of time in preparation. I know Heavenly Father helped me! I just thought it important to point that out. Here is a part of my review.

"You have an absolutely beautiful sound!  I love the color of your voice, and you sing with such emotion and honesty.  You produce beautiful, natural, almost entirely tension free sound.  Sehr GUT!  I hear nice easy spin and flexibility in your voice, throughout your entire range.  You seem to be using your breath well too, supporting from down low and making sure to sing from the breath support instead of the throat especially in your upper range.... "Good choice of songs.  They suit your voice well, and show off what your voice can do.  What a lovely instrument you have!  Keep up the good work.  Please consider audition the program, you can sing exactly what you did today.  I think you would be a big asset to the voice department!"

Random things I love

- Little notes of appreciation (who can help but feel loved and happy if someone took the time to sneak a little note to you?!? They always cheer me up!) Right along with that, getting flowers! It's the ultimate! I got both this week. So, I'm a happy camper!

- The search function on gmail. (besides the fact that it is incredibly practical, I feel great after searching for all facebook notif. and deleting them-pure bliss!)

- Kisses on the Cheek (yes, you may laugh, I'm sure you already did! Last week I fell asleep while doing homework, and low and behold I was awakened by a kiss on my cheek. LOVELY! Obviously it depends on who dishes them out!)

- Blog Comments (Hint, hint..haha no, but doesn't everybody? It makes you feel like your posts are of interest to others... Since blogging is my first step to journal-writing I will continue to do it even without comments. If I comment on your blog, it shows I enjoyed your post and care about you! If I don't I probably was simply to busy or haven't seen it yet!)

- Christmas (I love everything about it! Caroling, Cookies and Baking, food, lights, tradition, family time etc! Truly the most wonderful time of the year)

- De-cluttering (I've been raised to be frugal and very careful with my belongings which means I keep stuff. Although it hasn't become excessive hording, needless to say I don't own enough for it to go that far, I'd say I have way to much stuff I really don't need. So every now and then I go through it and rid myself of all excess worldly things. Going along with this point, I LOVE DI (deseret industries is a store operated by the lds church where all things that are still in good condition can get donated to and then they sell it for super cheap to the public. It creates jobs and a cheap way for people to get things they need. Besides it offers lot's of entertaining shopping trips. You never know what you may find! Options are limitless :)

- Socks (although I own maybe 5 pair, I've discovered how delightful it is to have warm feet. I had almost forgotten the feeling!)

- Doris Day Movies, Bill Cosby Show, Little House on the Prairie, Andy Griffin Show, Boy meets world and Monk (I have way too little time to thoroughly enjoy them!)

- Rowling up children (Parent's don't always appreciate it and I'm sure as a mother I will tone down my efforts, but is there something more delightful then to hear the wee little ones squeal in delight? I miss my little nieces and can't wait to meet my baby nephew. They are the best! I thoroughly enjoy taking friend's and family kids on outings. Having a kid do something with you makes most everything so much more exciting.)

- Gum and Werther's original (no need for further explanation, right?)

- Calvin and Hobbs (is there a better comic ever invented? )

- Basketball Games, Musicals and other performances

Anyway, these last two weeks have been fun and crazy busy. Thanksgiving was great! My camera is broken which means I have to get others to send pictures to me. Well, till next time and Aloha!

Pictures POST Vacation

So... after a day of fast Kaela, Erika and I decided to be bold and clean the kitchen sink.... Well.... MEMO to us: Cleaning the sink is great for like 10 people, NOT 3! oh and another one to us,... NOT AFTER CARLS JR. and not with chocolate, peanut butter cups and carmel syrup!!! what were we thinking? HAha.. it was pathetic. We had to call in reinforcements.
Oh Yeah, we can do this!!! YUMM
still feeling good. It's so tasty
This facial expression was in regards to me battling alone on my side of the table...

Erika joined me but apparently that didn't help. All three of us were starting to doubt ourselves
I didn't know I could make that face... Well, after eating, and eating, and eating I guess anybody could. I kinda look constipated...haha

We gave up and Brian (Kaela's friend) saved us.

Oh, a sling shot,...oh a pumpkin... it's 11pm...what to do?... Sure, let's go massacre the poor innocent pumpkin! Halloween is over, it's time had come to an end anyway. We just decided not to prolong it's suffering!
Jake giving me instructions or getting ready to take a shot, not sure
Look at my form! PUMPKIN, BEWARE! :)

Oh, lala ERIKA! Watch out, men! Xena is on the loose!

Booh YA! Proof of my good aim!

This part of the post is in honor of Luke and Reb who were graciously taking care of the chocolate rice pudding inside!

Crimson trail. I think we hiked for about 4 hours. I love hiking but I was still suffering the aftermath of walking pneumonia, rock climbing in the morning, not drinking... Hence, I was huffing and puffing during the first steep 45 min. But boy, were they worth it! See for yourself:

oh, hm. yeah, let me explain this one! So right when we started the hike we happened upon a couple taking engagement pictures. I was so excited for them. Well,  later on we found this little spot with the branches forming a natural arch and I was commenting how cute that would be for them and well, yeah here is the result. thanks luke! At least my hand's weren't as freezing cold afterwards. haha.. looking at the picture now the arch wasn't as picturesque as it seemed at the time

My finger is pointing at Erika's car about 2 1/2 hours away

Seriously Luke, I think this is the most adorable picture of you!

Taking the scenic route

I'm thinking, I'm thinking....

Luke, you're casting shadows! :)

Erika the beautiful...

♪♫

God shed thy grace on thee....

Don't jump Luke!!

We decided we need to go back there all dressed in black and dressed up as Pirate Roberts and reenact Princess Bride. I vote we choose another place for the "As you wish" scene! It might end in tears, just saying!

I'm the King (queen) of the world! I was tempted to sing "My heart will go on"

Horsey!

SO worth it! Nature is simply breath taking!

Pheeeeeeewwww... you made it through! Now, MOM and Kristin-- NO MORE COMPLAINING ABOUT LACK OF PICTURES ON MY BLOG! (Thanks Erika for forgetting your camera in my room and for letting me steal your pictures! :) I'm glad one of us is good about documenting our adventures!

Germany Trip (the end)

All through this trip I noticed, more then ever, the differences between my life in the states and good 'ol Germany also affectionately called "the motherland" So here is a compilation of my observations.

You know you're in Germany when,...

... it's morning when all you want to do is count the stars or go to sleep (8 hours time difference, gotta love it!)

... when you're brother is sporting the minivan by driving 105 miles per hour on the "Autobahn" and a green/white police car leisurely drives by with 115 mph (both legal)

... when it's 40 °F, drizzly and overcast but the weather report says it is an uncommonly pleasant day considering the season! (Fall) (brrrrrr)

.... when all of nature (and I mean ALL) is dipped in colors of green, orange, brown, red.

.... it's september and the stores sell Cookies, Lebkuchen and all sorts of Christmas goodies

... no matter what direction you go, you will find a castle, ruin or monument within 10 to 15 min.

... you can pick your own bouquet of gorgeous flowers from the field and pay 3 Euro for about 15 stems. (it's a common curtesy to bring a little treat or flowers or something when you go visit someone, with these prices that makes sense)

... Gasoline costs approx. €1.50 a liter (approx. $1.65 a quart) and about 80% of that comes from taxes

... Mc. Donald sells Bratwurst instead of Breakfast saussages

... people stare at you when you walk around with more then 2 kids (it's kind of funny when you know people are trying to do the math watching you with 3 girls and guessing your age, thinking you're the mom...)

... when the radio plays American hit's only to be interrupted by a man telling you about "Stau's" (Traffic jams) in a thick Bavarian accent

... Public transportation is convenient and available in the dinkiest towns (love the U-Bahn)

... SOCCER is the nation's sport, on game nights the cities get crowded, you feel loopy by the beer fumes in the air and you get hit on by some drunk fan while shopping :) (happened many a times)

... you recycle everything and you pay 25 cents on every bottle you buy, which will be refunded when you return the empty canisters

... smoking and drinking is allowed at age 16 but you can't drive until you're 18

ok, I could go on and on... Germany is a great place!

You know you're at the Dautel home when....

... you are awakened early in the morning by 2 ecstatic nieces jumping on the couch on which you have been blissfully trying to overcome jet lag, they grab your face, ask if you're awake followed by an overflow of questions that spill out of their mouths so quickly you can't answer them...

.... everybody DREADS the mentioning of whinnie the poo, because it's the girls favorite movie and the've watched it a gazillion times (and Aunt Rike enjoys brining it up maliciously--retaliation for extensive teasing)

... there are 4 guitars in the house, one drum set, and one piano and still somehow there are discussions about who can use which, when

... One person starts singing a song while playing the piano and all of the sudden the whole family will gather around and join singing

... 3 nieces start a dance party as soon as you turn on Dad's Elvis collection! Favorite nr. 1. Return to sender, 2. Can't help falling in love 3. Teddy Bear... Alicia also LOVES "Breaking up is hard to do" by the Carpenters... there is nothing cuter than watching her sit in a corner, singing to her doll (named Rike) "Down, dubby do down down.. breaking up is hard to do"

... one person has a question and a intense family talk will unfold and last for easily 3-4 hours.

... every meal is an extensive master piece and delicious!

... everything you try to do for someone else is a surprise (we all Love to try and surprise)

... there is only one bath room and everybody tries to be first because after 20 min. there won't be any hot water left for the shower

... Christmas plans start in October additionally to Thanksgiving and everyone loves the preparations. Christmas is the most magical experience in my home and in Nürnberg with the Christkindles Market as well. It will be weird experiencing my first Christmas away from home and immediate family.

... when you play x-box, wii or card games (mostly 500 or scum) until the wee hours of the morning, realizing that your basically just a victim not competition for your brothers but too competitive to give up.

... you go to church and immediately are asked to conduct the music, translate for investigators, play the piano, help out in primary and afterward the first question you get asked by all your friends is "So who are you dating?" After disappointing them with the lack of stories to tell, they tried to convince me to move back, going through all sorts of measures setting me up with everyone male and available...oh well "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors" (name that movie/book)

... breakfast cereal, bread spreads, gravy, snacks, dessert all include chocolate

... you are loved by everyone unconditionally and you are supported by any means you can possibly think of!!! I love my home and my family and all my loved ones in Germany!

My brother Richy brought these "Schokoküsse" (Chocolate kisses) and we were having a eating contest. I lost, but I think it was rigged!!!
I made this 3 layer birthday cake for my Mom's surprise party.
We prepared for a halloween party that they were having a day after I left for Utah (wait a minute... Halloween party? Maybe they were actually partying 'cause they finally had the house to themselves again)
(For more pictures, I have to wait for Kristin. I don't have any more worth showing, sorry!)

Da dada DAA!!!

Well, let me tell you how we surprised my parents.
We had someone in the stake presidency call my parents in for an "interview". They were so nervous about a calling, it was classic! Worried with all of this and sickness which my Mom was experiencing, they didn't expect a thing. Unfortunately my connecting flight from Denver got canceled.  Which meant I had to call home as Jared and Kristin were already on their way to Munich to pick me up from the airport. I had to come up with a slight "Family emergency" from Kristin's Family to cover my call. My parents were not happy with me at all when I told them I couldn't tell them what was going on but had to get a hold of Jared. Anyway, long story short, my flight got worked out and 36 hours after I got up, to go to the airport in Salt Lake, I met them in Nürnberg. Needless to say, I was all puckered out! In between me arriving and meeting my parents, we killed time by visiting some great friends that live by the church and by checking out "Dirndl", sold as remnants of the October Fest. (Pics at the end). I was exhausted when it finally was time to meet them. Stationed behind the door of the stake presidents office I was waiting for them to make it up the stairs, frantically trying not to fall asleep.  I succeeded and the rest is history. My Dad was speech less (a hard thing to accomplish! :). It was so funny, he just turned around and wouldn't even say anything....

--argh, my computer doesn't like me! I can't upload the video.Well, they were excited to see me. let's leave it at that.

This is HUGE!!! Mc Donalds is selling 'Nürnberger' (our local Bratwurst') German wide now... Well, I was pretty excited to eat it for breakfast anyhow!
A little too 'Little Red Riding Hood' perhaps?
How about 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'?

We all got Daddy's nose!

Alright, Kristin's not home so I have to ask for your patience concerning the video of my parents reaction to my surprise visit. She videoed it for us on her camera. Here are some perky treats I had since coming home. My family is simply AWESOME, if I may say so myself! They are wonderful and I've missed them so much.

Karen gave me these to bring to Jared and Kristin for Halloween. Join us in some of the craziness!

We've been told we look alike. I resent that observation! No idea what people are talking about :)
